The ferruginous arsenic water of the Fonte dei Cani originates from the ancient mines of the same name, at 1450 mt. S.l.m., in Valle Rossa, located about two hours walking north of the hamlet of San Carlo, in the municipality of Vanzone con San Carlo, Anzasca Valley. Many springs flow from the mines, with different hydrocarbon characteristics, some of which have high acidity and high mineralization, with arsenic, iron and numerous other metals. These waters flow into a single rio, the Red Crotto, whose ghetto is covered by an ocraceous patina for the deposition of the hydrated oxides of some of the metals in solution, in particular iron.

Federici, Saccani, and Parietti (1967) indicate at least four most important puppies, present at the beginning of the century: two gulped inside the Galleria “Ribasso dei Cani”, a third in the Gallery “Piazza Nuova” and the fourth outside the “Covone” gallery. These springs have been called by various names from the various authors: in blockade they have been called “Vanzone’s arsenic-mangano-iron sources”, “Sources of San Carlo”, “Sources of the Isomolies”, “Sources of the Cane Mine”, ” Nanni Sources “. Separately they named their own emergency point: “Dead Dogs Source”, “Fonte II Ribasso Dogs”, “Source of the Cave”, “New Square Source”, “Fonte Fuori Galleria” or “Fonte del Covone”.
It is currently referred to as the “Compressor Gallery Source”, which, for its abundance (about 10 liters per minute) and for favorable capture conditions, was more frequently considered for therapeutic use. Probably it is one of the four major sources already valued in the past, even if the capture has been carried out at a different point. In fact, with the exception of the “Albasini” Gallery, from which an oligomineral freshwater pulp flows, all spring waters have common chemical characteristics, with high acidity and high concentrations of metals.

Water Vanzonis is characterized by strong acidity, with pH values between 2.4 and 2.5, and is indicated in many pathologies:
• Thyroid diseases characterized by hyperfunction and usually by serious distroids.
• Blood and hepopoeia. Essential anemies, anemia of growth, anemia from metrorragia, anemia from previous mallatrae, anemia from anchilostoma.
• Functional and organic diseases of the nervous system, such as neurosis and neuroscience.
• Gynecological diseases such as subacute and chronic inflammation of the female genital system, bullous dystrophies, pelvic, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhoea, leucorrea associated with anemia.
• Dermatological diseases such as physical, chemical and dysmetabolic dermatitis, dermatitis, chronic exacerbations, atopy, lymphatic dysplasia, scrotal, acne, psoriasis, lichen and rosacea.
• Otorhinolaryngological Diseases.

The dermatological indications for the microbiological features are certainly the most interesting application for Water Vanzonis, as well as for the sludges resulting from it, whose very strong antibacterial activity is a synergistic activity with the trace elements present and their actions Positive metabolic. Experimental studies have shown for ferruginous arsenic water of the Dog Mine a bactericidal action on two bacterial species, E. coli C36 and Staphylococcus Aureus ATCC 61685. Such bactericidal activity can be a major factor for topical application to Therapeutic, dermatological indications, water or mud extracted from galleries.

A very important fact is the conclusions of the recent analysis of the University of Pavia (2005), which highlighted in the water 65 metal elements: Vanzone’s sources with San Carlo are probably the richest minerals in the world, an absolute primacy . Geologists have said that for the sake of so many minerals, water would stay in contact with mountain rocks for a period of between 150 and 200 years!
